Bhutan is becoming a popular these days as a main destination for the adventure seekers and to have a unique experience of culture and history. The itinerary will take to the core part of Bhutan, crossing high passes, driving through winding highways with countryside views of landscapes, villages, religious monuments etc. The trip will include the visit to Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangduephodrang, Trongsa the main seat of Trongsa Penelope, the governor, who was elected as the hereditary monarch of Bhutan, where the crown prince had to take the position before his ascension to the Golden Throne, and the magnificent and historically considered religious valley of Bumthang where you could visit very old religious monasteries. The Bumthang valley is one of the most beautiful places in the country to be visited. The Perfectly designed itinerary will offer the amazing scenic beauties of Bhutan.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrive Paro
    Arrive at Paro airfield, our office representative will greet and drive to the pre- booked. In the evening take a stroll around town's main street. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
  • Day 2 : Paro Sightseeing
    Hike (1.5 hrs) to the spectacular view of the Taktshang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), perched on a rocky edge over a 900 m. Experience unforgettable views of Mt. Jhomolhari. For the local people it is a place of pilgrimage, but for a tourist, a hike up to the viewpoint opposite the monastery can be exhausting, thrilling and mystical. The legend has it that Guru Rimpoche is had flown to the site of a monastery on the back of a tigress from Tibet and meditated in the cave there for three months. Visit the historic ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong, built in 1647. In the way of returning you will visit Monastery Kichu Lhakhang and built in the 7th century by the first King of Tibet, Songtsen Gampo to spread the Buddhist Dharma throughout Bhutan. Overnight at Paro.
  • Day 3 : Paro - Thimphu (60 km, 2 hours)
    After breakfast you will drive to Thimpu which will take 2hrs, capital city without having any traffic Lights. On the way to Thimpu scenic view, mesmerizing mountains, Buddhist monasteries will welcomed. En-route stop at Chuzom (confluence) where the Paro river joins Thimphu river. Nearby Thimphu, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress of the Kingdom which now houses the School for Buddhist studies. Then, visit Handicrafts Emporium, Textile and Folk Heritage Museum followed by visit local market. Overnight at Thimphu.
  • Day 4 : Thimphu - Punakha (75 km, 2.1/2 hours)
    After visiting National Library, Painting School and Traditional Medicine Institute in the morning and you will drive to Punakha. Punakha was the winter capital for over 300 years until the time of the second King. Punakha Dzong that dominates the whole area was built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, and established the central monastic body with 600 monks. Overnight at Punakha.
  • Day 5 : Punakha - Wangduephodrang - Gangtey (70 km, 3 hours)
    After breakfast drive to Gangtey via Wangduephodrang. Visit majestic Wangdue Dzong and interesting local market. Further ahead pass through dense forests and oak, rhododendron trees, reaching at Gangtey (Phobjikha). In the evening take a walk around Gangtey village and visit Gangtey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in this region. Overnight at Camp / Guest House.
  • Day 6 : Gangtey - Trongsa (120 km, 4.1/2 hours)
    Morning explore Phobjikha valley which is famous for Black Necked Cranes. The cranes migrate here from Central Asiatic plateau to escape its harsh winters. After lunch drive to Trongsa crossing 3,300 m high Pele la pass. Evening visit Trongsa market. Overnight at the lodge.
  • Day 7 : Trongsa - Bumthang (68 km, 3 hours)
    After breakfast you will taken to Kuenga Rabten via drive. Kuenga Rabten represent the Early days of Bhutan's Monarchy. This palace is under Special Commission of cultural Affairs and we do not require any permit to visit the interior. Full day sightseeing around Trongsa Dzong. This will provide you ancient history and untouched Himalayan Village. We will drive to Bumthang will climb all the way to the Yotong la pass 3400 m. It will be the highest pass on your trip to Bhutan. Overnight at Bumthang.
  • Day 8 : Bumthang Sightseeing
    Bumthang is the general name given to combination of four valleys – Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura with altitude varying from 2,600m to 4,000 m. It is home to many of prominent Buddhist temples and monasteries.Visit Tamshing Lhakhang, the treasure house of interesting religious Buddhist paintings. Then visit, Jakar Dzong, the administrative centre of the valley. Afternoon visit Kurje Lhakhang, one of the most sacred places. Later visit Jambay Lhakhang, the ancient monastery dating from the introduction of Buddhism in the country. At evening visit local shops. Overnight at the lodge.
  • Day 9 : Bumthang - Thimphu (268 km, 8 hours)
    In the morning after visiting Bumthang market, drive to Thimphu. Lunch would be served en route at one of the classic restaurant in Trongsa town. Enroute at Wangduephodrang take a short break for tea / coffee and then proceed to Thimphu. Arrive Thimphu and check into the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 10 : Thimphu - Paro
    After breakfast drive to Paro. Later take an excursion to Taktsang Monastery. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 11 : Depart Paro
    Representative of our agency will drop you at the Paro airport for your next destination.
