Gokyo Chola Pass Trek

Gokyo Chola Pass is one of the most popular, adventurous and physically demanding trek in the Everest Region. The Gokyo Chola Pass offers panoramic Himalayan views, including the Mt Everest 8848 m, Mt. Lhotse 8516m, Mt Pumori 7145m, Mt, Thamserku and other numerous mountains, Tibetan Sherpa Culture, Beautiful Gokyo Valley and Gokyo Lake, wild animals and Himalayan Birds and Lush Valleys. This trek is the combination of classic tradition, culture and top class of adventures as it combines entire upper Khumbu, crystal Gokyo Lake, renowned viewpoint Gokyor-Ri and of curse the base of the world’s tallest mountain, Everest. After Short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the trail twists ups and down through the prosperous Sherpa hub like Namche, Thame, Khumjung, Phortse and Dhole to Gokyo Lake at 4790m. Views of western shoulder of Mt. Everest, Lotse Nuptse and far away Makalu are excellent from Gokyo Ri (5483 m.). Then crossing over Cho La Pass (5667 m.), the trail heads up to Kalapattar at 5545 m. Finally trek demanding previous experience and walking over the pass into the Himalayas, takes you into the heart of the mountains and the culture of the Everest region to the foot of the great peaks itself.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival at Kathmandu Airport
    Our representative will greet you at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to your hotel. When you have had your time to settle in and freshen up after your long fight, some refreshment you will invited for a visit to our office. In the evening we will offer you for a welcome dinner at our own Restaurant.
  • Day 2 : A full day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu
    The very next morning, after breakfast you will be taken for a full day sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley. You can visit center of pilgrimage Pashupatinath Temple and Swyambhunath, Boudhanath and Kathmandu Durbar Square a World Heritage site. On the journey back to hotel, you can explore the local areas, gullies and lifestyle. After your dinner, you can perhaps take leisurely stroll through the famous streets like Thamel and Durbarmarg.
  • Day 3 : Flight to Lukla and trekking to Phakding (2652m)
    In the Early morning we flight from Kathmandu to Lukla via mountain flight of about 40 minute scenic flight. With clear weather we get fantastic views of the mountains, including Everest as we enter the deep gorge of the Dudh Kosi valley. After Breakfast in Lukla we begin our trek from Lukla following a gentle climb up the mountainside on the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River, where you witness the typical Nepal terrace culture, slate roofed houses and views on Kusum Kangaru (5 579 m). We then take an easy walk for about two hours to Phakding village for the overnight stop at the Lodge.
  • Day 4 : Trek to Namche Bazzar (3440m)5-6hr
    From Phakding the trail follows the Dudh Koshi valley north, meandering through the pines, crossing it twice by small suspension bridges before reaching the village of Monjo the entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park. Beginning with a slight climb to Jhorsalle, the trail passes waterfalls and other culturally and naturally occurring items of interest. Villages are interspersed with magnificent forests of Rhododendron, Magnolia and fir. Along the way to you will be rewarded with your first glimpse of Kusum Kangru (6369m) Thamserku (6608m), Everest (8848m) and Nuptse (7879 m). A steep climb up to the beautiful village of Namche bazaar (3440m) will afford you further spectacular views and a comfortable place to spend the second night of the trek.
  • Day 5 : Acclimatization day in Namche
    Rest day in Namche. Optional walk to the Sherwi Khangba Sherpa Culture Museum or day hike to the Hotel Everest View in Khumjung village (3 700 m) and Khundi Hospital in Khundi Village, the first hospital build in the Khumbu Region by Sir Edmund Hillary and Himalayan Trust in 1966. Overnight stay at the lodge in Namche Bazaar.
  • Day 6 : Trek to Tengboche (3867m)5-6hr
    Next morning after breakfast We continue our trek with pleasant walk through the forest with a magnificent view of mountains. We follow a spectacular path that traverses around the hillside high above the Dudh Kosi River. The trail climbs past some water-powered prayer wheels and begins a sustained climb through a forest of tall, mature rhododendrons. The start of the Tengboche (3870m), the village is scattered across a wide, grassy saddle below a crescent-shaped ridge covered by scrub pines and firs. From the viewpoint at the top of the hill, there are awe-inspiring views of distinctive peaks like Amadablam (6856m), standing proud of the massif containing Everest (8848m), Nuptse (7861m), Lhotse (8501m) and inspiring views of Himalayan giants. We visit the Buddhist Monastery at Tengboche, the largest in Khumbu region. Overnight at Lodge.
  • Day 7 : Tengboche treks to Dingboche (4360m)5-6hr
    In the morning views of mountain and monasteries are spectacular in Tengboche. From Tengboche we start our journey toward the north and soon cross the Dudh Kosi river by way of a small suspension bridge which spans a deep chasm in the river valley. During the way of Dingboche The trail makes a gradual descent through scrub junipers and around mani stones as it follows the hillside. The trail passes many, mani walls in deep rhododendron forests where crossing after the Imja khola, the trail climbs many carved mani stones to Pangboche. Pangboche Gompa is the oldest in Khumbu; a visit will be well worth it. Overnight stay at Lodge.
  • Day 8 : Rest day in Dingboche for the acclimatization (4360m)
    This day is also resting day for the proper acclimatization. We hike to Chukung valley and then to Chukung-ri (5445m.) from where we can see the wonderful View of Makalu, Everest and their surrounding mountains. We finally return to Dingboche.
  • Day 9 : Trek to Lobuche (4940m)5hr
    The trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. A downward path to Pheriche village. It joins the trail below Thungla beautiful views of cholatse across the valley. After another steep ascend the trail climbs up and over the terminal moraine of khumbu glacier. Tawoche and Nuptse are particularly spectacularly from Lobuche towering. Overnight at lodge.
  • Day 10 : Trek to Everest Base Camp (5365 meters) then back to Gorak Shep (5180 meters) 7-8hr
    This is one of the difficult and chalenging day, we need to walk for 7-8hrs. Throught this walk Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5365 meters, the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without having mountaineering equipment. We explore base camp and its surroundings glacier and return back to Gorakshep. Overnight at GuestHouse.
  • Day 11 : Trekking Kala Patthar (5545m) and back to Lobuche (4940m)5-6hr
    Most of the morning on this day is spent climbing Mt. Kala Pattar, a small peak (by Himalayan standards) at 5555 meters. The ascent is demanding, but the climber gets the most magnificent mountain panorama: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 29028ft, 8848 meters, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. After an easy walk of 2-3 hrs we will reach at Lobuche. Overnight at Loubche.
  • Day 12 : Trek to Dzongla (4830m)
    This day at first we walk on the flat stone path for some time passing through arid valley with mesmerizing view of other good mountains views. From this trail both Pheriche and Dhugla are closely visible as well as other with perfect mesmerizing views of mountains. We then follow the Lobuche Khola downstream where, after a while, we take a trail to the right heading off towards Dzongla. Overnight at the village of Dzongla.
  • Day 13 : Crossing Chola Pass
    We walk ealry in the morning. This day can be a great day for trekker after crossing Chola-Pass, you can experience the best part of your trekking, yes it is difficult but with full of worth. We have to walk three hours to get on top of the Chola, before you get Chola-pass you have to be about 20 minutes on ice. During our Trek if Climate in our favour normally we don't need any equipment to cross Chola-Pass but we need to carry our ice axe and warm cloths. The path skirts around the ridge, staying mostly level.
  • Day 14 : Trek to Gokyo Lake
    It's a short walk towards Gokyo Lake. Its only two hours walk from Thangnak but its really beautiful walk through the Ngajumpa glacier. After crossing an iron bridge over an stream the trial levels out as it follows the valley past the thorugh three lakes, Longpongo at 4690m, Taboce Tsho and Dudh Pokhari. Gokyo Village stands by the DudhPokhari and Cho-Oyu Mountain. Above the lake provides amazing views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung, Kang, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholats and Twache.
  • Day 15 : Gokyo and trekking down to Dole (4090m)
    Gokyo is a trade center where the Sherpa people run lodges to provide the best services to the trekkers. Gokyo is situated by the side of Ngozumba glacier, the biggest glacier of Nepal. Spend a day in Gokyo strolling around the lakes and hiking up to some of the mountain viewpoints nearby. After a short trek from the top we will have a magnificent view of highest peaks, from the west to east are Cho you (8,153m), Gyachung Kang (7,922m), Everest ( 8848m), Lhotse (8,501m) and further way Makalu.   • Day 16 : Trek to Namche Bazzar
    We pass through the forest covered with rhododendron, pine and local incense. We arrive in Phortse Thanga and crossing the river over a suspension bridge. We ascend up a sandy slope to the Dudh Kosi River. The route ascends to the valley of Dudh Koshi and down to Khumjung. Finally, we reach the Namche valley.
  • Day 17 : Trek to Phakding (2652m)
    We continue our journey through the forest covered with rhododendron, pine and local incense. Then we ascend in the steep path to Monglo and then descend gently to Khumjung. From Khumjung we walk in the flat path for some time and then descend to Namche. Trek from Namche to the Dudh Koshi can be the hardest stage of the entire trek. The trail descends over the ridge past rocky cliffs and scattered pines to the tiny village of Tokthok. Although the way is all downhill. Once we cross the high suspension bridge, the path runs mostly level. We will work though rhododendron and pine forests with the view of distant snow covered peak before arriving Phakding. Phakding is a crowded place, but better for your overnight settlement.
  • Day 18 : Trek to Lukla (2,850)
    Its an easiest trail to back down form Lukla. On the way Lush green scenery refresh your trek tiredness. We will see incrideble mountain view and local sherpa village. We want you to enjoy and collect some wonderful memory from Everest Region because this is last night. Overnight stay at Hotel.
  • Day 19 : Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
    We will fly direct to Kathmandu. If the weather is terrible we have to stay this day and wait for the next days.
  • Day 20 : Final Departure.
    Our representative will Drop you at International airport Kathmandu for your next destination.
