Langtang Ganja La Pass

One of the more challenging trekking trails in the Langtang Region, Langtang Ganja La Pass trek offers a route running through magnificent mountain valleys. It lies in north towards Kathmandu and south if the Tibetan Border. This trek starts from Syabru Bensi and ends at Melamchi Pul Bazaar. This trek is bound to test your endurance and your capability to push yourself to the extreme. There are no lodges and hotel facilities during this trek. The trekker should be prepared with everything they need from food supplies to tents. Using firewood is prohibited in this region.
This trek is an ideal for experiencing the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas. You explore beyond Langtang Helambu trail crossing the challenging Ganja La Pass. On the way you will encounter different varied cultural regions. You will also get an opportunity to view the spectacular snow capped Himalayas; Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Shishapangma (of Tibet) and other peaks surrounding Langtang Helambu. If you are lucky enough, you might even be able to spot the magnificent Red Panda (one of the endangered species in Nepal). The trail is full of traditional monasteries and monuments. This track has so much more to offer.

Itinerary Overview

  • Day 1 : Arrive in Kathmandu
  • Day 2 : Free Day/ Kathmandu Sightseeing
  • Day 3 : Kathmandu – Syabrubeshi (2,100m)
  • Day 4 : Syabrubeshi – Lama Hotel (2,410m)
  • Day 5 : Lama Hotel – Langtang (3,330m)
  • Day 6 : Langtang – Kyanjin Gompa (3,730m)
  • Day 7 : Excrusion to Tsergo Ri and back to Kyanji
  • Day 8 : Trek to Ganja La Phedi
  • Day 9 : Cross the Ganja La Pass and trek to Keldang
  • Day 10 : Trek to Yak Kharka
  • Day 11 : Trek to Tarke Gyang
  • Day 12 : Trek to Sermathang
  • Day 13 : Trek to Melamchi Pool Bazar and drive back to Kathmandu
  • Day 14 : Departure back to home country

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrive in Kathmandu
    Arrival at airport and our company representative assist you and drive to the hotel. After relaxing few hours our guide will pick up you for short walk and you will reach at Kathmandu Durbar Square. After short walk of Square, we will take you for welcome dinner in our won restaurant. O/n at Hotel.
  • Day 2 : Free Day/ Kathmandu Sightseeing
    After breakfast at Hotel start to visit Kathmandu valley, this day you will be taken to Swayambhunath(monkey temple), and Boudhanath with our local guide. Afternoon meeting with trekking guide, check the trekking gears. O/n at Hotel.
  • Day 3 : Kathmandu – Syabrubeshi (2,100m)
    Drive to Dhunche from Kathmandu time takes about 8 hours. From Kathmandu up to Trisuli Bazaar condition of road is very good but after Trisuli Bazaar condition of road is uneven till Dhunche (1950m). Walking time takes about 6 hours. O/n at Tea House Lodge.
  • Day 4 : Syabrubeshi – Lama Hotel (2,410m)
    Descending down the ridge past fields, houses and through a forest reaches Ghopche stream. After crossing a bridge mountain path leads to ridge snout. From there descends a steep forest slope to the Langtang river then enters a forest with a gentle ascends gradually gains altitude. After that climbing a steep and comes Lama Hotel (2380m). Walking time takes about 6 hours.O/n at Tea House Lodge.
  • Day 5 : Lama Hotel – Langtang (3,330m)
    To reach Langtang from Lama Hotel takes nearly 5 hours steep along Rhododendron and oak forest, overnight at Langtang (3500m). O/n at Tea House Lodge.
  • Day 6 : Langtang – Kyanjin Gompa (3,730m)
    The trail crosses through the stone built village and climbs to Chorten then passes through a Hugemani along a soft trail to Kyanjin Gompa. Walking time takes about 4 hours. O/n at Tea House Lodge
  • Day 7 : Excrusion to Tsergo Ri and back to Kyanji
    Today, we make an excursion to Tsergo Ri which would also help us to acclimatize. We climb to Tsergo Ri which offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas. By evening after Tsergo Ri climb back to Kyanji Gompa.
  • Day 8 : Trek to Ganja La Phedi
    After breakfast, we continue our today’s journey to Ganja La phedi crossing the Langtang River. Ascend through Rhododendron Forest. This night we spend at Phedi.
  • Day 9 : Cross the Ganja La Pass and trek to Keldang
    Today, we cross the ganja La Pass. It’d be a strenuous day since Ganja La is one of the difficult passes. Ganja La Pass is covered by snow most of the time in year. Enjoy the amazing views from the Pass. From the pass we down to Keldang.
  • Day 10 : Trek to Yak Kharka
    Today, we continue our trek from Keldang to Yak Kharka. From keldang we descend further down following a ridge line.
  • Day 11 : Trek to Tarke Gyang
    Today also we descend our journey and lose altitude. The route would be similar, except that as you descend lower, you will notice more vegetation.
  • Day 12 : Trek to Sermathang
    Today, you will visit Shermathang village and descends the ridge with a view to Melamchi bazaar. The path continues from the Gangjwal and goes around the valley and small stream. When a large valley stretches ahead. Pass above the hamlet with a Gompa. The path becomes a gentle ascent and leads to the pass below the crematory painted Chorten trek until to reach Cautara at the end of ridge. You are in Kakani.
  • Day 13 : Trek to Melamchi Pool Bazar and drive back to Kathmandu
    Without climbing the hills, the trail goes through Dubhachaur and Kaphalgiri village ( crowded with thatched roof houses). Go through the pine forest path become like a steep ditch. Cross through the wooden bridge at Melamchi Khola you will reach to Melamchi bazaar. From Melamchi Bazar the bus ride will takes about 4 hours to reach Kathmandu.
  • Day 14 : Departure back to home country
    Our representative you will drop you at International airport for your next flight, according to your schedule.
