Nam Tso Lake Trek

Situated at an altitude of 4718 m Namtso Lake is an extremely beautiful lake with turquoise blue water. Hiking excursion to Namtso lake is getting popular among visitors in Tibet. The lake is 70 km long and 30 km wide and is the biggest salt water lake in Tibet. It has the Nyechen Tangla mountain range (7000 m peaks) on its background to enhance its beauty. The wide open spaces around the lake, dotted with the tents of local nomads is interesting to see. The 190 km drive from Lhasa to Namtso lake involves the high Yangpachen pass (5630 m), so proper acclimatization is very important to do this hike successfully. Never take this trip lightly because it is short. The best season for trekking in Nam Tso Lake is late May to October, however you must be prepared at all times for wet weather, snow and cold winds. It is a very remote region and all the supplies must be carried by ourselves.
Our trip begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. We explore several cultural and other heritage sites of Lhasa and then we begin the trek. After the trek we have the option to get back to Kathmandu through the drive.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Lhasa
    Flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa's airport (Gongaar) and drive to Lhasa City. The flight will amaze you with a mesmerizing view of Himalaya including Mount Everest and many others. A short walk around the street and overnight at booked hotel
  • Day 2 : Lhasa Sightseeing
    Sightseeing around Lhasa. Visit the Potala palace, the residence of Dalai Lama. The Jokhang Lhakhang and stroll around the market area. Overnight in Lhasa hotel.
  • Day 3 : Lhasa Sightseeing
    This day visiting the Drepung monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet. This 14th century monastery once housed more than 10,000 monks. After Lunch Norbulingka -the Summer Palace of Dalia Lama will be visiting. Overnight at hotel in Lhasa.
  • Day 4 : Free day in Lhasa
    Free day in Lhasa, get fully acclimatized or personal activities
  • Day 5 : Drive to Namtso Lake
    Drive Nam Tso Lake (4718m)/Bali Village/Droja Monastery,Camping
  • Day 6 : Trek to Namtso Lake
    Trek to Namtso Lake-Droja Monastery/Ampa Komlong Island, Camping
  • Day 7 : Trek to Ampa Komlong Island
