Numbur Cheese Circuit

Numbur Cheese Circuit is a newly launched trail in the Himalayan Region from the team of TAAN and other local tourism agencies. This trekking trail starts from the Shivalaya which is also a starting point of Mount Everest Base Camp Trek. This trail offers full of amazing views and walk on different environment for 19 days. This trail situated in Ramechap district with the distance around 190 km from Kathmandu. This trek passes through the Khimti and Likhu River a lap of Mount Everest.

This circuit was developed to show the hidden chapter of Nepal which still follows the traditional life style with its own nature from the origin. Mostly the indigenous communities such as Sherpa, Newar, Thami, Tamang, Magar, Yalmo and Majhi were the real inhabitant of this place. This circuit was named after the virgin peak called Numbur Chuli and the oldest Chesses factory of Nepal which was founded in the year of 1957, and known as a Numbur Chesses Circuit. We have a great chance to view the biodiversity ranging from temperate to alpine forest with inhabited by wildlife like Red Panda, Musk deer, Himalayan Thar, snow leopards and other rare animals as well as species. During April and May rhododendrons bloom in profusion. The attractions of the route are glaciers, peaks, lakes, superb views of major Himalayan peaks including Annapurna South, Langtang, Jugal, Gaurishankar and Numbur Chuli and many more.

The Numbur Cheese Circuit trekking is more potential for the trekkers who are looking for ‘off-the-beaten path’ treks. The High Himalayan lakes, revered by pilgrims including Panchpokhari, Jatapokhari, Bhalepokhari, Dudhpokhari. The route goes through deep river gorges, glacial lakes, terraced rice fields, watched over by the towering peaks of Numburchuli. Trekker has opportunity to visit the famous Thodung , Lachhewar, Kyama, Gumdel, Bhandar Monasteries lie along the trail in offering spiritual delights on the way.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in kathmandu
    Day 01: Representative form Seto Himal excursion receives you at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu, Transfer to hotel.
  • Day 2 : Drive from kathmandu to Shivalaya (1790m)
    Drive Kathmandu to Shivalaya (1790m) takes nine hours. Overnight at lodge. It takes 6-8 hours to drive from Kathmandu to Shivalaya. The road is well paved with fine mountain views. Shivalaya is gateway for the Numbur Cheese Circuit. It is located on the picturesque Khimti River.
  • Day 3 : Trek Shivalaya to Khahare (2175m
    The trail from Shivalay to Khahare runs up and down along the valley side through terraced fields, dips to cross the river and then winds steeply up the cliff on the other side. Khahare is a small villages which is inhabited only during winters by the house owners. During the summer they move to cattle pastures bordering Tibet tending to their yaks and Chauris. Overnight at home-stay.
  • Day 4 : Trek Shivalaya to Panipakha (3105m)
    Panipakakha is the first campsite on the trail route. It has a relatively flat camping area carved into the hillside with a basic two room hut. There is space sufficient only to house 5-10 tents. Overnight at camp.
  • Day 5 : Trek Panipakha to Maanedanda (3940m)
    In the course, the trail crosses a tiny Sherpa village of Phokte. The trail ascends through the rhododendron forest to the summer pasture of Maanedanda . The campsite at Maanedanda is equipped with a basic cooking shelter and area for tents. It offers good views in clear days.
  • Day 6 : Trek Maanedanda to Panchpokhari (4515m),
    Along the riverside, the trail climbs to Jata Pokhari. With the increasing altitude we move through alpine pastures to scrubby forest of sunpati --a rare mountain herb. As we reach before a dramatic waterfall we get the signal of our arrival to Jata Pokhari. Lake Jata Pokhari lies in the lap of Mt. Numburchuli. The lake is a popular pilgrimage in Ramechhap where thousands of pilgrims gather to celebrate holy festival Janaipurnima during the month of July. The trail continues and after a short walk you reach to Panch Pokhari. There are five small lakes, known as Panch Pokhari. The view of Annapurna South dominates the Western horizon of Panchpokhari.
  • Day 7 : Trek Panchpokhari to Tare (4140m)
    Today we will the cross pass (4600m) and descend to Thare.
  • Day 8 : Rest Day and explore around
    Rest Day and explore around, overnight at camp.
  • Day 9 : Trek Tare to Ngeju (2665m)
    The only suitable term to call Likhu Khola valley is complete wilderness. Your trek continues with the marvelous mountain views that extends north into Tibet. Following the trail, traditionally used by local Sherpas,to bring yaks across the mountain, we cross Thulo Lapcha pass at 4838m and make a steady walk along the Likhu Khola valley to reach pastures of Ngeju. Ngeju is nested at the foot of icefall tumbling from the sacred summit of Numbur. Kau Gumba, an ancient Buddhist Shrine is enclosed by a great sweep of high rock and snow peaks above tree line of the valley. Dudhkunda –the Milky Lake rests in the heart of the basin. The lake is surrounded by tumbling glaciers and large moraines. Overnight at tented camp
  • Day 10 : Rest and explore around Ngeju
    Rest and explore around Ngeju, overnight at camp.
  • Day 11 : Trek Ngeju to Lahaksewar (2665m)
    Lahaksewar is simply known as Sewar which is the most beautiful Sherpa villages in the upper Ramechhap region. The village welcomes you with its amazing landscapes, culture and hospitality. Sewar people has still maintained their traditional lifestyle. Overnight at home-stay.
  • Day 12 : rek Lahaksewar to Kyama (3190m)
    The trail from Lahksewar to Kyama descends through deep forest of Kyama with eye catching view of Pathibhara and Numberchuli. Overnight at home-stay.
  • Day 13 : Trek Kyama to Gumdel (2255m)
    Gumdel is a tiny Sherpa village around a large Buddhist Stupa with the gleaming Number Chuli as the backdrop. Overnight at home-stay
  • Day 14 : Trek Gumdel to Serding (3360m)
    Trek Gumdel to Serding (3360m). Overnight at homestay / lodge.
  • Day 15 : Trek Serding to Lapchane (3150m)
    Overnight at home-stay
  • Day 16 : rek Lapchane to Those (1755m)
