Tsomorri Lake Trek

Tsomoriri Lake Trek

Tsomoriri Lake is newly opened trekking trail in the Changthang Plateau of Ladakh. This salty water lake is situated at an altitude of 4595 meters and is nearly 27kms longs at some places. Korzok village overlooks this fantastic lake at one end, and this used to be an important transit on the ancient silk route to Tibet. Changthang is a land of wilderness and magnificent landscapes, which is newly opened to foreigners. This area is featured by high arid plains, isolated villages, snow-capped peaks and amazing high altitude azure-blue lakes. This area is only accessible for a few months every summer and is inhabited by Changpas – nomadic yak and Pashmina goat herders of Tibetan origin, who wander this area crossing over high altitude mountain passes. Our trek will lead us across these passes to their summer settlements to witness a unique human culture, far away from the reaches of the modern world. The scenery is wild and vast with snow-capped peaks lining the far horizon. Largely the trek is  at a strenuous level, and climb to the passes would be gradual. Camping is divine with exclusive and exotic experience of untouched Himalayas. Wildlife in the area includes Kings (wild asses), Snow Leopards, Shankhoo (Ladakhi wolf), Marmots, Hare, Yaks and migratory birds. The lake is the amazement of many geologists apart from being the tourists’ freaking out place to enjoy the solitude of the area.
